Wood Elves 2500pts = revenge of the tree spirits

Postby gobbla » Fri May 09, 2014 9:13 pm

People seem to think the tree lists are dead. I m planning to bring this list to a GT soon the low model counts make it easy to transport and gives me a realistic objective to have it fully painted by the due date.
I really wont have much time to work on the new models for this so other available models I have are : wardancers, scouts, more glade guards, more waywatchers,2nd eagle, treekins
One scenario will be Blood and Glory and other scenarios use breakpoint units/characters to capture objectives so standards are a must
Without further ado here is the list. Let me know what you guys think

General; Magic Level 4; Lore of Shadow; Asrai Longbow
Dispel Scroll

Spellweaver
Magic Level 4; Lore of High Magic; Asrai Longbow
Moonstone of the Hidden Ways

Glade Captain BSB
Asrai Longbow; Light Armour; Arcane Bodkins
Hail of Doom Arrow

15 Glade Guard Mu, BS; Trueflight Arrows
Banner of the Eternal Flame

The ambushers:
2X 5 Glade Riders
Standard; Musician; Hagbane Tips

The scouts:
6 Waywatchers
1 Waystalker

The trees:

Think you need more Way Watchers and no Warhawk Riders. Warhawk riders are going to die when someone looks at them wrong. Waywatchers need more shots to effectively do their job.

And why High Magic instead of Dark for the 2nd mage?

With the 2 treemen being in rare, I can only field up to 8 waywatchers at 2500pts. The question is then, should I keep the eagle or add 2 more waywatchers in the unit instead.
If the warhawk riders become a prime target early, you re not targetting the trees so I m good with that.

For the high magic vs dark magic. The wood elve lore attibute for high is better and the spells are typically lower costs which matters to take advantage of the 2 lvl 4

Yeah, but I'm shooting S3 shooting or magic missiles at the Warhawks.... the Trees are taking the war machine shots... not sure that will draw much fire away from the Trees.

The list performed well for my first games with the new wood elves. 3 win 2 loss at Nashcon this week end. I m sold on the trueflight arrows.
Best magic arrows for me. Always hitting on 3s with bs4 models.
Last minute list change was to get rid of the flaming banner as the arrows are magical, they don t benefit from flaming and give starfire arrows to the bsb instead to cancel regen first and add another dryad with the extra points.
The branchwraiths in the dryad unit did well also. It s a good combat block especially in my venom thicket forest with poisoned attacks.
The list was strong in every phase with a bemol on the combat phase where the trees are anvils and the list has no hammer

Games were objective based a la 40k where only units with fortitude could hold objectives
I faced skaven rd 1 - lost blood and glory scenario
Ogres rd 2 - won, hold more objectives than opponent turn 6
High elves rd 3 - won, battleline
Day 2
High elves rd 4 4- won. dawn attack
Wood elves rd 5 - lost. Other player had 7 banners against my 4. giving him more units to hold the hill in the middle which no one hold in the end after a bloodshed. A sneaky glade rider unit ambushed in my deployment zone and gave him the edge. Mine was properly shot by his bsb with hail of doom arrow.
Games were all very close with a lot of back and forth and the last turn was always key.
Against both high elves, all they had left at the end was their deathstars with the banner of my crap that only dweller and my waywatchers can touch.
I felt the list gave me an answer for everything I faced.

That's awesome, congrats on the games. Glad the list worked out for you! You going to make it to Empire this next weekend?
