Circle Thoughts on our new stuff

Postby finalnova » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:00 pm

Razorwing Griffon - TRAMPLE ALL THE THINGS!... seriously, we trample everything. at PS 12 also... I am picking one of these suckers up when I can. MAT 6 and 14/15. And they are 5 points each.

Riphorn Satyr - Horns and 2 Bladed Gauntlets that are all PS 16. Mat 6 and 12/19. FURY 4 with Bulldoze, Aggressive, hard head and Grab/Smash for 9 points. I am going to run these over my stalkers probably. With gorax's animus and eKaya, I am sitting at 3 PS 20 initials.

eMorvahna - Completely love medium models. What is scarier then a bunch of skinwalkers or Tharns having stealth? not much imo. Bringing back medium bases with full health for 1 box is really nice for feat turn.

Tharn Blood Pack - Range 12, Pow 13 bows is nice, 13/14 defences means they are your standard Tharns. RAT 6 is meh, aiming for RAT 8. Standard Tharn rules of Treewalker, heart Eater. They also gain from Assault and Battery which is nice.

Example of a eMorvahna list I might run:

eMorv +5
-Riphorn 9
-Razorwing 5
-Gorax 4
Skinwalkers with UA 11
Bloodpack 10
Gallows 1
Warhammer 40k:
CSM: 12k
Daemons: 3k
Warmachine/Hordes:
Circle of Orboros:
-Kaya the Moonhunter - 35 pts(1 proxy)
-[WIP] Morvahna the Autumnblade - 35 (half the list is proxied)
-[WIP] pBaldur - 35 (Entire list is proxied except 2 models)

I think Circle took the book, everything they got is useful and in some cases top rated choices.

The Bird is a good Specialist in my eyes. Some games he does nothing but Amuck + MAT 6 can hit DEF16 on average and POW 12 will hurt that stuff. Also good for getting past the front and hitting some support, which the other bird can do but this one does it while Trampling. Nice grab for the points.

Satyr is amazing. FURY efficient, good DEF/ARM and Smash and Grab when he already Charges for free? Also some good potential with his Animus. I think he's a nice alternative to the Stalker, he doesn't hit as hard but he has some more options.

Morvahna is a god. Purification, reliable hit/damage on those game changing attacks, tons of movement and placement tricks with herself and her Feat. Fog gives Camo models that leg up without forcing their position. Even though she is big she is really survivable with Stones, Light Cav etc. Have seen some awesome assassination tricks with Reeves and War Dogs, as well as old fashioned attrition. I don't know if Tharns are that great even with coming back but Skinwalkers certainly are, new Tharns have potential though.

Blood Pack is expensive but you get a lot of bang for the buck. They need something to help them get their work done because ARM 14 is not sexy. Certainly a lot of potential and their Order is great.

-------------------------------------------------

I really like 2 Gallows with her since she can place them and take advantage of Entropic Force or a CLUTCH Death Knell. That build is kind of the three waves list, getting a third wave with the Feat. Not sure the Razorwing is a main lister though, he just fills a niche role. I think PP is making some models with Specialists in mind, which is awesome.

In what event would the Razorwing Griffon be a good choice to take to sub in as the specialist?

I would have to do some testing with the Riphorn Satyr with the eKaya list, I would like to try to get a few games in today after work. Assuming I don't pass out standing up ><

Sorry guys Skorne wins the book.

Circle does very well for sure (new caster is truly EPIC) but pow 12 trample is nothing useful against anything but standard trollkin units, any other medium or large based minis are going have way to much Arm or hit boxes to care most of the time. The new UA makes a unit we would otherwise never see viable and the saytr is a contender not amazing, I would still take a feral over him often. (Not always which is why I say he contends!)

Just some thoughts shared to me from others..

Except that it benefits from Primal anf Forced Evo. Also the big point is that it tramples over anything. So hiding your important solos and casters behind a 120mm base is no longer safe. Teh Razorwing has a very large number of uses. It's not always about what you can kill, this is circle. It's about what level of Jank you can pull off.

. . .and the saytr is a contender not amazing, I would still take a feral over him often. (Not always which is why I say he contends!)

Between Ghettorex and the Riphorn the Feral is now obsolete. I will never take another one again. Add in the bulldoze animus and you have an awesome beast. Noth Kayas and Mohsar love the new satyr.
I'm a confessed cynic so figure that into account when reading my posts.

I will have a toss up on skorne and circle right now. As a circle player I am a bit bias.

But look at it this way, we have 2 casters that don't have epic forms, and none of us have lvl 3 forms either, Skorne, Legion and Trolls all have lvl 3 forms right now. What do we have? We could have an entire battlegroup have ghostly, we ignore 90% of terrain out there, and now we trample over everything. You have to give us some credit right there.

You are going to trample a colossal from less the 4 inches away? Come on.. that doesn't even include the "important solos" base you also have to make it past... honestly think about the practicality..

The damage out put for a feral is clearly better then the satyr do the math.

I wish you'd explain your thoughts a bit more Ninja, unless you have been pressed for time when posting. :]

Why is the Feral better to you? With Gorax animus they both kill a Heavy pretty easily so that seems like a wash. In certain situations the Ferals extra bit of POW could tip the scales but not commonly needed.

The Satyr brings a far better Animus to play and with Grab and Smash + Hard Headed I'm not even sure their damage has any gap, although I'm not going to math it out against all common ARM values and damage grids.

I prefer the added utility of the Satyr for what is essentially the same damage. The Feral can get Ghostly which is nice while the Satyr doesn't have a buddy for that. That's harder to add as a bonus though since it depends on table and opposing composition.

Also why do you feel Skorne won the book? In hindsight I think everyone won the book except Legion (which I am fine with :D) as Trolls and Circle plugged a lot of holes or added new and exciting things while Skorne got a few strong things and one REALLY strong solo. Also Minions got two amazing Casters which is something they deserve.

I think I liked this (expansion) book more than any I have seen for the game as a whole.

I have done a game today at 42 points testing out the new beasts. The Griffon was slightly lack luster, but then again, I only had one real trample with it at pow 14, against Praetorian Swordsmen. The Satyr got in via trample to Makeda3 and did 15 damage first hit at dice +3 (Primal, Forced Evolution), 2nd hit missed, 3rd hit did 8 damage.

The List:

eKaya +3
-Wilder
-Laris
-Gorax
-Razorwing Griffon
-Riphorn Satyr
-Ghetorix
Druids with Overseer
Stones with Keeper
Warhammer 40k:
CSM: 12k
Daemons: 3k
Warmachine/Hordes:
Circle of Orboros:
-Kaya the Moonhunter - 35 pts(1 proxy)
-[WIP] Morvahna the Autumnblade - 35 (half the list is proxied)
